HCS - South-West Rail

The initial planning for the 'SouthWest Rail Link' involved the Rail Infrastructure Corporation seeking advice on engineering, economic and planning relationships between the project and new town centres along the route between Glenfield and Leppington, as identified in broader land use planning studies for the area.

HCS contributed to one of the first examinations of potential impacts by advising the engineering project managers on economic planning implications of the proposed route.

In this exercise, HCS worked closely with the engineers to identify likely land and facility requirements (in terms of reservations) for centres along the route, where these centres would both support and be supported by the rail project. HCS provided advice on the potential economic (and practical) integration of the town centres, especially the retail/commercial components, with the rail route to support the engineering and design investigations.
