East Maitland in the Hunter Valley is based on a traditional 'strip' shopping centre over three street frontages, but lies between the heritage focused Maitland town centre and the convenience based Greenhills Mall.
HCS was engaged by Maitland Council to establish the present strengths and future opportunities for East Maitland, based on its role in the local retail network. A thorough field examination and an analysis of a shopper survey provided the basis for a public forum, where the views of merchants and shoppers were fully discussed.
HCS distilled the resulting information and formulated a number of possible development scenarios for the East Maitland centre which were then discussed at another public forum prior to drafting planning and economic development recommendations for Council’s consideration.
